Foreward
The anesthesia faculty at the University of Ottawa are pleased to offer a concise Primer reference for students completing a rotation in our specialty. The 2023 Ottawa Anesthesia Primer is a major update of the previously popular 2013 Primer and is available as an Apple and Kindle eBook as well as a QR code enabled print book.
I would like to thank all the anesthesia faculty and residents at the University of Ottawa who have volunteered their time to contribute to this project. Each chapter is the combined work of a resident in-training under the guidance of one of our anesthesiologists. I am grateful to Perry Ng and Mariane Tremblay at the University of Ottawa; Perry for his expertise in graphic illustration and Mariane for her photographic know-how. I would also like to thank Pamela Kartzali and Claire Beveridge for their editorial assistance as well as Greg Kerr and Kam Miranbigi at Eliquo.ca for their assistance with the print layout.
In addition to supporting the production of the Ottawa Anesthesia Primer, proceeds are used to support the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation (CAS IEF). The CAS has been a leader in supporting initiatives to improve anesthesia care in developing countries.
We hope you enjoy the 2023 Ottawa Anesthesia Primer and ePrimer.
Sincerely
Patrick Sullivan MD, FRCPC,
Associate Professor of Anesthesiology
